SINCE 1973
ABOUT THE HOTEL

Now guided by the Sherpa family who founded it decades ago, Khumbu Lodge has changed little in spirit. The rooms are warmer, the meals heartier, yet the feeling endures: a home built for high mountain life, where trekkers are greeted with easy familiarity and cared for as if they’ve been here before.
Along the stairwell, old photographs trace the lodge’s beginnings: of early expeditions and dusty footpaths, of climbers and porters who shared stories long into the night. Their presence lingers still, not in grand displays, but in the crackle of the stove on cold mornings and the way the staff remember exactly when you like your tea.
Some lodges are made to impress. Khumbu Lodge was made to belong.
Established in 1973 in Namche Bazaar, Khumbu Lodge has been welcoming trekkers, mountaineers, and travelers from all over the globe for nearly five decades.
As one of the oldest family-run lodges in the Everest region, we pride ourselves on warm Sherpa hospitality and unmatched comfort. Whether you are acclimatizing on your way to Everest Base Camp or seeking a peaceful stay in Namche, our lodge offers the perfect retreat surrounded by the grandeur of the Himalayas.
From our rooms, guests enjoy panoramic views of snow-capped peaks while experiencing a blend of tradition and modern amenities, making every stay both memorable and rejuvenating.
Khumbu Lodge offers 54 rooms, ranging from standard accommodations to private ensuite options and furnished apartments for longer stays. Every room is designed to ensure comfort in the high-altitude environment of Namche Bazaar (3,443 m).
Our restaurant serves authentic Sherpa cuisine alongside international favorites, with ingredients sourced locally and coffee brewed to perfection, all enjoyed with breathtaking views of Namche valley and the surrounding peaks.
Over the years, Khumbu Lodge has hosted countless trekkers, volunteers, and climbers, earning a reputation as a home away from home in the heart of the Himalayas. Here, every guest is part of our family.
Warm regards,

OUR FOUNDER

Pasang Kami Sherpa (PK) was born in the Khumbu region and grew up in the shadow of Chomolungma, Mother Goddess of the Earth, Mount Everest. In 1965 he became one of the few select Sherpas to begin working with Jimmy Roberts in his new venture, one that was to become a leading tourist industry for the Kingdom of Nepal: trekking.
His career reads like a history of Himalayan mountaineering itself: high altitude Sherpa on the Indian Everest expeditions and in Langtang, then assistant to Schneider in 1964 during the data collection in the extremely rugged Hinko region for the now famous Schneider topographical maps.
From there he served as Sardar on expedition after expedition, leading the Sherpa teams that carried some of the great Himalayan climbs of the era, and the list goes on.
PK tells of the time they ate their tump lines and other pieces of leather to stave off starvation and death while returning to the villages of Khumbu.
